Kyla Walker

Kyla attained her Board Certification as a Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in 2003. She attended Florida State University [1996-2000] earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with a Minor in Business Management, additionally completing and becoming certified in Performance Management within the Department of Psychology. Kyla continued her journey at Florida State University [2000-2003] earning a Master of Science Degree in Psychology with a Specialty in Applied Behavior Analysis.

Kyla has worked in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis since 2000. She has 20 years of experience working as a consultant in the field, applying behavior analysis with diverse populations of clientele, and in a wide variety of settings. Within the school settings, she has provided ABA training to counselors working with elementary-aged students through The Children’s Home Society of Florida; she has worked as a school consultant for the district of Bay County as well as for the district of Sarasota County. During her experiences within the various school environments and districts, she developed a behavior unit at an elementary school in Sarasota County focused on providing intensive behavioral supports to ESE and EBD students.

Kyla has also worked as a Psychology Consultant at Intermediate Care Facilities providing behavior analysis services to the individuals with intellectual disabilities within these residential facilities. She consults with and supervises registered behavior technicians (RBTs) who work at intensive residential and acute psychiatric inpatient facilities for children and adolescents. Kyla develops all treatment plans for these patients, provides ongoing behavioral trainings to the mental health technicians (MHTs), and monitors behavioral systems in place at these inpatient centers (facility-wide data collection system, point store, weekly incentives, in-services for specific behavior protocols and plans). She continues to provide high quality ABA Therapy to adults in group homes, family homes, Adult Day Training programs, and in the community settings. Within these settings, Kyla has provided oversight and supervision to persons working toward becoming BCBAs, as well as provides ongoing supervision to Registered Behavior Technicians within the field.

Currently, Kyla works in the Manatee and Sarasota County areas. She served as a committee member on the Sarasota/Manatee Local Review Committee board for 10 years. Kyla founded and started up a local chapter in October 2017, Suncoast Association for Behavior Analysis (SCABA), and has been the President from the creation of the chapter until present day. The chapter disseminates applied behavior analysis to the local community, provides CE events throughout the year, and helps to plan and host an annual CoFABA conference with the other established local chapters in the state of Florida.
