Kristy Bower

 Clinical Social Worker Intern

Kristy has been dedicated to working with children and families since 2002. She began her career as an art educator after earning her degree in Art Education from the University of Florida, using art as a powerful tool for self-expression, cultural awareness, academic development, problem-solving, perseverance, and self-care.

In 2019, Kristy joined Forty Carrots Family Center as a Parenting Educator, where she used a strengths-based approach to support families through play-based groups, small discussion sessions, and one-on-one consultations. Her work focused on deepening parent-child connections and helping caregivers build confidence and skills to meet their unique goals.

Now a graduate of the Boston University School of Social Work with her Master’s in Social Work, Kristy is continuing her path to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She provides therapy to youth and families, specializing in working with children from birth through age 22.

Kristy partners closely with caregivers to help them become therapeutic parents for their children, with a deep understanding of emotional needs and behavioral challenges. In addition, Kristy also supports caregivers during the postpartum period, addressing challenges such as postpartum mood disorders and the transition to parenthood. She is a certified facilitator of the evidence-based Circle of Security Parenting™ program, which is grounded in attachment theory. This lens informs all aspects of her work, guiding families to build secure, connected relationships that support emotional regulation, lasting behavioral change, and secure, resilient adults.

Kristy draws on a wide range of evidence-based modalities to support her clients, including art therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, psychodynamic therapy, interpersonal therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and family therapy. Her clinical focus includes addressing emotion regulation, anxiety, trauma, supporting children coping with personal or family medical trauma, divorce, life transitions, and working with neurodivergent children and their families, including those navigating autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Kristy also enjoys connecting with pre-teens and teens, helping them navigate the emotional, social, and identity-related challenges of adolescence.
